The Heart of it All

Every organization begins with a story. This is mine—and the journey that ultimately led to Valchemy Giving.

Valkyrie

Representing courage, guidance, discernment, and the quiet strength of walking beside others through life's most significant transitions. Inspired by the role of the Valkyries in Norse tradition as guides through moments of profound transformation, the name reflects a belief that meaningful support is rooted in compassion, wise stewardship, and knowing when to walk alongside others as they find their own path.

What Does 'Valchemy' Mean?

Valchemy is a portmanteau—a new word created by blending "Valkyrie" and "Alchemy."

Together, Valkyrie and Alchemy represent a philosophy of courageous compassion and meaningful transformation. They remind us that guidance, stewardship, and human connection have the power to change lives—not through grand gestures, but through the quiet, intentional choices we make every day.

My hope is not only to support people through difficult seasons, but to help cultivate a village where those who have been lifted up are empowered to lift others in return.

Alchemy

Traditionally associated with transformation—the art of turning ordinary materials into something extraordinary. Beyond its historical roots, it has become a symbol of personal transformation: the ability to find meaning in hardship, beauty in imperfection, and hope in life's most difficult seasons. Like the changing seasons of nature, life is always unfolding. No hardship lasts forever, no season remains unchanged, and lasting transformation often begins with small, intentional acts that quietly shape what comes next.

Hi, I'm Jody Valkyrie.

Founder of Valchemy Giving • Creator of Valchemy Living • Owner of Within Arms Reach

Based in West Bend, Wisconsin, I'm a licensed Massage Therapist, Reiki Master, Herbalist, and Life Transition Guide/Doula with nearly two decades of experience serving individuals and families through life's many seasons. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of walking alongside people navigating chronic pain, illness, grief, caregiving, major life transitions, and personal transformation. Each experience has deepened my understanding of what it means to care for the whole person.

Over the years, I've poured my heart into building Within Arms Reach, my therapeutic massage and healing arts practice, and later, Valchemy Living, a botanical mercantile, refillery, educational resource, and gathering place rooted in stewardship and intentional living. Both were built on the belief that true well-being isn't found in excess, but in having access to the things we intentionally choose to nourish our lives.

As those two organizations grew, another realization emerged. Expanding access isn't something one person—or one business—can accomplish alone. The strongest communities are built when people, organizations, businesses, and neighbors come together, each contributing the gifts they've been entrusted with.

That realization led me to an even bigger question:

How do we make the things that help people flourish more accessible?

For me, Valchemy Giving is the answer to that question.

My journey hasn't been a straight line. It has included becoming a young mother, navigating divorce, single parenting, facing family crises, losing loved ones, navigating my own health challenges that reshaped my perspective, and repeatedly rebuilding life from the ground up. Like so many others, there were seasons when I found myself searching for answers without knowing where to turn.

Along the way, I discovered that finding the right resources was often harder than asking for help. Even after reaching out to local agencies and county services, many of the most valuable resources came through persistence, independent research, and conversations with people who had walked similar paths. When life already feels overwhelming, navigating complex systems shouldn't become another burden to carry.

Those experiences taught me something I have never forgotten: people don't always need someone to rescue them—they often need someone to help illuminate the path ahead. That realization became one of the seeds that would eventually grow into Valchemy Giving.

The Path That Led Me Here

"Valchemy is more than a name.

It is a way of being."

Healing Beyond The Treatment Room

My work at Within Arms Reach revealed that healing extends far beyond physical care. While therapeutic massage was often the reason people came through my door, it was rarely the only thing they needed. Those conversations taught me that meaningful healing isn't limited to what happens during a treatment session.

People often needed encouragement, trusted resources, practical guidance, education, or simply someone willing to listen without judgment.

Again and again, I witnessed the profound difference that compassionate connection could make. Sometimes healing began with skilled hands. Other times, it began with helping someone feel seen, pointing them toward a helpful resource, or reminding them they didn't have to navigate life's challenges alone.

Over the years, clients would often tell me, "You truly have a gift." My response was almost always the same:

"I'm just here to share it."

It wasn't something I had thought much about at the time, but eventually I realized that simple response reflected something much larger. Whatever gifts we've been entrusted with—whether they're professional skills, practical knowledge, creative talents, or simply the ability to encourage another person—become most meaningful when they're shared.

The Gift of Reciprocity

Over the years, I met countless people whose lives were defined by generosity. They cared for aging parents, raised children, volunteered in their communities, supported friends through difficult seasons, built businesses that served others, and devoted themselves to helping wherever they could.

Yet many of them had quietly become the people no one was caring for.

They had spent so much time pouring into others that they were running on empty, often believing that asking for help somehow diminished the very gifts they so freely gave. I understood that feeling because I had lived it myself.

While selfless sacrifice can be beautiful, it isn't sustainable when there's never an opportunity to be replenished.

That's why I believe one of the greatest gifts a community can cultivate is reciprocity.

A healthy village doesn't expect a handful of people to carry everyone else. It creates opportunities for generosity to flow in every direction. Sometimes we are the ones offering support. Sometimes we are the ones receiving it. Neither role defines our worth. Both are essential to a flourishing community.

When generosity is shared rather than shouldered by a few, everyone is strengthened.

"A thriving village isn't built by one person.

It's cultivated by many."

"Necessary Luxuries"

Those experiences also challenged the way I thought about wellness.

Many of the things that truly help people heal and flourish—time to rest, meaningful connection, therapeutic care, nourishing food, time in nature, opportunities to learn, creative expression, and supportive community—have become what I think of as "necessary luxuries." They aren't luxuries because they're optional. They've become luxuries because access to them is too often limited by circumstance, cost, or opportunity. Yet these are some of the very things that allow people, families, and communities to truly flourish.

Those realizations eventually grew into Valchemy Living—the brand that now brings together therapeutic care, botanical education and sustainable living, and community generosity under a shared philosophy of stewardship, intentional living, and meaningful connection. What began as a vision for caring for the whole person has grown into an ecosystem where people can heal, learn, explore, connect, and discover practical ways to cultivate lives—and communities—that flourish.

Today, I believe every person has a gift worth sharing—and every person, at some point in life, has a need that can be met by someone else's gift.

A Village Already Taking Root

Long before Valchemy Giving officially became a nonprofit, I found myself drawn toward opportunities to strengthen the community beyond my own practice. Whether contributing gift cards or handcrafted self-care baskets to local charity auctions, joining organizations like 100+ Women Who Care Washington County, volunteering with Roots and Branches, or simply looking for ways to connect people with resources and one another, I realized these weren't separate acts of service.

They were all expressions of the same philosophy.

Each experience reinforced what I had already come to believe through years of working with people: meaningful change rarely happens through one grand gesture. It grows through relationships, shared gifts, and ordinary people choosing to invest in one another.

Valchemy Giving simply brings those threads together under one shared vision—a village where compassion becomes action, generosity becomes opportunity, and every person has something valuable to offer.

The Chapter I'm Working On

There have been seasons in my life when I needed others to walk beside me. There have also been seasons when I've had the privilege of walking beside others.

This is the next chapter of a journey rooted in healing, stewardship, and the belief that stronger communities are cultivated when people have meaningful access to care, knowledge, opportunity, and one another.

Valchemy Giving exists to help bridge that gap by connecting people, organizations, businesses, resources, and shared gifts in ways that make those opportunities more accessible. It's about building a village where generosity is sustainable, reciprocity is valued, and everyone has the opportunity to both contribute and receive support with dignity.

Every season has something to offer. Sometimes we receive. Sometimes we give. Sometimes we simply walk beside another until they're ready to continue on their own. When each of us offers what we're able in the season we're in, we create something far greater than any one person could build alone.

We cultivate a village.
